Supply List:

• Artwork or images on a heavier paper such as card stock or water color paper (I’m using artwork drawn in a Large Moleskine Watercolor Notebook).
• Scissors
• Mod Podge (Gloss)
• Paint Brushes
• Emery Boards or Fine Sandpaper
• E-6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive
• Smooth Glass Tiles
• Glue On Flat Pad Bails
• Necklace Chain

The first thing we’ll need are some glass tiles, glue on bails, and a chain to hang your final pendant on.

Next we need some artwork in the size and shape of your glass tiles. I draw all my work by hand, but you don’t have to be an artist to make these necklaces. Any sheet of paper will do, as long as it’s thick enough to handle liquid. Collage sheets, scrapbook paper, or pretty pictures printed on card stock work just fine.

Have the rest of your supplies near by!

Seal your artwork or paper. If you’re working with hand drawn art, you may wish to spray on a protective coat of acrylic spray to prevent smudges. Usually Mod Podge will not smudge your artwork but it has happen to me a time or two.

What you’ll want to do is paint the Mod Podge over each piece going in one direction. Coat both the front and the back of your paper with two thin layers of mod podge.

Let the Mod Podge dry about 15 minutes in between each layer.

When you’ve applied your final coat, let dry for a few hours.

When your artwork is dry and firm, cut out each shape!

Apply a medium size drop of E-6000 to your clean glass tile.

Place your artwork on the glass, so that the front of the artwork presses against the glue. Push down in the middle, and on each of the four corners.

Turn the glass tile over, and press down firmly until you see the glue spread all the way to the edges. It may even spill out a bit, that’s okay. E-6000 is a mess but once it dries you can rub it off.

I hope you have finger nails! Pick up your glass tile, and make sure the artwork is even with the edges of the tile. Place it upside down, like the picture above, and leave it to dry for several hours or overnight.

Once the E-6000 adhesive is dry, your pendant might be messy from the glue. I simply wipe this glue off using a baby wipe or slightly damp cloth.

If there are any edges of your artwork sticking out you can trim them with scissors, then take your emery board and sand the edges so that they are beveled. Sand in one direction  just as you would your own fingernails, not back and forth or you will fray up the edges.

Gather your flat pad bails, and apply a small drop of E-6000.

Glue your bail to the back of the glass tile and center it. Let it dry until you can’t move it.

Put a chain through the loop of your bail and you’ve made a necklace!
